However, because the white portions and black portions of the wood shrink at different rates, the wood is prone to cracking during drying, making it an extremely difficult material to handle.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nCraftsmen repeatedly shave the wood little by little and allow it to rest and dry in the air, carefully controlling the process.
