This is Collaboration product by "Yatsu-yanagi" and "Kawatsura-nuri" chopstick craftsman "Mr.Takashi Abe" / Cherry bark "Kawatsura-nuri" [Meoto-bashi] Chopsticks set, a long-established Kaba-zaiku (wild mountain cherry bark work) manufacturer established in 1876 (Meiji era 9).


These chopsticks have rounded tips for easy gripping and non-slip coating on the tips, and are made with attention to chamfering, design, durability, and ease of use.
Reddish-brown bark is designed on vermilion and black lacquer-finished chopsticks.
It is also recommended as a gift for someone special.

This is a cherry bark "Kawatsura-nuri" chopsticks set produced in collaboration with "Yatsu-yanagi," a long-established Kaba-zaiku (wild mountain cherry bark crafts) manufacturer established in 1876, and "Kawatsura-nuri" chopstick craftsman Mr.Abe Takashi, who boasts 800 years of history of handmade Hon Urushi chopsticks.
The restrained luster of the vermilion- and black-lacquered lacquer finish is beautiful, and the non-slip finish of the chopstick tips and other details make this a gem of a product that is also easy to use.
Natural lacquer is used to ensure safe use.
For the Kaba-zaiku part, cherry bark is used that has been carefully peeled from the trunk of a mountain cherry tree and dried in the shade to remove moisture.

The bark of the wild mountain cherry tree, the material used for Kaba-zaiku, is grayish-brown in color and has a rough, uneven surface.
When the surface of this raw bark is scraped thin, a reddish-brown layer appears.
Its texture, feel, and grayish-brown hue are used as they are in "Plain bark", allowing you to enjoy the natural texture of wild mountain cherry trees.

Kaba-zaiku is a one-of-a-kind craft that uses the bark of wild mountain cherry trees.

It is said that the word "kaba" originated in a long poem in the Manyoshu (the oldest anthology of Japanese poetry), in which a wild mountain cherry tree was described as "kaniwa," which was later transformed into "kaba".
The beauty of the material is one of the main attractions of Kaba-zaiku, but the excellence of the material is also the reason for its enduring popularity.
One of the characteristics is its ability to suppress moisture.

The technique of Kaba-zaiku (wild mountain cherry bark work) was passed down from the samurai to the citizens and continues to today.
In 1976, it was designated as a national traditional craft, and even today, about 150 craftsmen, including in-house workers, are involved in Kakunodate's Kaba-zaiku production, mainly in the town of Kakunodate.
