Shogi pieces craftsman "Kou-getsu 幸月" made Mikurajima-hon-tsuge (Mikura Island grown boxwood) Masame, Gyo-ryu (Gyo-ryu typeface) Engraved Shogi pieces.

"Kou-getsu 幸月" is a Shogi pieces maker who learned pieces making under "Fugetsu 富月", a Shogi pieces craftsman who is regarded as one of the top five masters of the modern age.
"Kou-getsu 幸月" is especially good at "Engraving".

These Shogi pieces are "hand carved Shogi pieces" with the characters of the "Gyo-ryu typeface" carefully carved into the vertical grain wood of the island yellow willow.

Mikurajima is an island located in the central part of the Izu Islands (an area with many islands of various sizes) in Tokyo, Japan.
The quality of tsuge grown in the unique soil and climate is perfect for making shogi pieces.
Mikurajima Island is the most highly regarded tsuge producing area along with the Satsuma region of Kagoshima Prefecture, that produces Satsuma tsuge.
The hontsuge grown on Mikurajima Island is the best material for shogi pieces in terms of the color, luster, touch, weight, and texture of the wood.

Wood grain : Masame /
”Masame” is a wood grain that runs vertically straight across a Shogi pieces.
It does not have the flamboyance of tiger spots or root grain, but it has the elegance of straight grain, and its hardness and good pointing characteristics make it a popular choice for many people who prefer straight grain.

Typeface : Gyo-ryu (Gyo-ryu typeface) /
The "Gyo-ryu (Gyo-ryu typeface)" is a typeface created by calligrapher Shigeki Uemura.
The name "Gyo-ryu" is derived from the Chinese legend "Li Chao 登龍門 (a gateway to success)" from the Chinese book "The Book of Later Han (後漢書).
The word "Long (dragon) gate," which means a gateway to success in life, is a corruption of this legend.
The typeface "魚龍 (Gyo-ryu)" is named after this legend.
The most distinctive feature of the "Gyo-ryu typeface" is the beauty of the characters, which are written by a calligrapher.
The letters, which evoke both delicate and bold brush strokes, are carved in a well-balanced manner on the piece.
The beauty of the characters for the "飛" of "飛車" and the "龍" of "飛車成駒 (reverse side)," which have a large number of strokes, is particularly impressive.
