Mikurajima is an island located in the central part of the Izu Islands (an area with many islands of various sizes) in Tokyo, Japan.

Mikurajima Island is the most highly regarded tsuge producing area along with the Satsuma region of Kagoshima Prefecture, that produces Satsuma tsuge.

Wood grain : "Fu (variegated)" /
Like "Moku (figured)", "Fu (variegated)" is a complex grain pattern or material that rarely appears in localized twists and turns, branching, or near the roots of the wood due to the effects of the growing environment during the wood's growth process.
The "Fu (variegated)" is a highly valued material because of its rarity, aesthetic value, and excellent decorative qualities, with no two pieces being alike.

Typeface : Mine-syo (Mine typeface) /
Mine-syo (Mine typeface) is a typeface featuring abbreviated characters with flowing curves.
These characteristics are particularly evident in the characters for "龍王 (Ryu-oh)" on the reverse side of the "飛車 (Hi-sha)" and "銀 (Gin)" on the "銀将 (Gin-sho)", and it is no exaggeration to say that their beauty is the greatest appeal of "Mine-syo (Mine typeface)".

After the artisan carefully engraves each character by hand, the engraved part is filled in with lusted Japanese lacquer.
After drying, the surface of the pieces are polished and finished.
