This is an association for training shogi piece makers, organized by "Fugetsu", a famous craftsperson based in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
"Fugetsu" studied under Mr. Ito Kyutoku, who is entitled "Contemporary Master Craftsman" and based in Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture, and is respected as one of the five greatest master craftsmen in Japan.
His craftsmanship shines through in the delicate, flowing calligraphy, and pseudonym engraved on the bottom of "Gyokusho" and "Osho" pieces, as well as in the plump, graceful moriage (raising with lacquer) technique.
Fugetsu's Shogi pieces have many fans among professional shogi players and are used in many title matches and Meijinsen tournaments.
'Mori-age-koma' is a piece made by filling the engraved characters with lacquer, and after drying and polishing the surface flat, finishing by using a brush to add more lacquer on top of the engraved lacquer parts to give slightly raised characters.
Ranked equally with the finest quality wood grain of 'Mikurajima-hon-tsuge', 'Satsuma-hon-tsuge', with its hard and tenacious wood, is also referred to as 'Practicality is Satsuma-hon-tsuge'.
'Kujaku-moku' is a beautiful pattern of the wood grain spreading out from the bottom towards the top part of the piece like 'a peacock with its wings spread', giving it its strong point.
Since Kujaku-moku only appears at the part of the tree where it branches out, only enough wood for a few pieces can be taken from one tree.
Therefore, in order to complete a set of Kujaku-moku pieces, multiple boxwood materials with similar wood coloring are required.

'Minase-sho' is a script invented by Mr. Minase Kanenari, a well-known Noh writer, featuring serenely styled relatively large characters.
It is also said to have been favored by those with power during the Edo Period, such as Tokugawa Ieyasu, and is an extremely popular script.
