New Collection : Kaishi Made Go Bowls Special Feature

The long-established turned-wood workshop

Kaishi was founded in the Kansei era (around 1790).

At the time of its founding,

the craftsmen produced wooden tableware

such as trays and plates as traditional woodturners.

Later, after being commissioned to make Go bowls,

the workshop went on to specialize exclusively

in the production of Go bowls.

The name “Kaishi” embodies the spirit of treasuring
and carrying forward the techniques handed down through generations,
and of devoting oneself wholeheartedly to the making of Go bowls
while keeping high aspirations close to one’s heart.
Today, the fourth-generation master
—who has dedicated 65 years exclusively to crafting Go bowls
—continues to refine his work each day with unwavering commitment.
