This Go bowl is made from Shii [Castanopsis] wood .

Shii [Castanopsis] Go bowl is widely used for its pale wood grain and color.
The wood color is a pale yellowish brown wood color.
The Shii's nuts is the so-called "acorn".

As the Chinese character "椎(shii)" is used for "椎茸(Shiitake mushrooms) ", it is heavily used as a tree for cultivating shiitake mushrooms.
In addition, the bark is used as a dye to dye black.
