Traditional Craftsman Mr. Takashi NISHIKAWA made Mokkoku [Japanese Ternstroemia] Go bowls.

This is a rare Japanese Ternstroemia Go bowl that is rarely seen because it is rarely on the market.
The Mokkoku Go bowls have an overall bright reddish-brown color with a strong red tone, as shown in the photos.
The wood is hard with tightly packed growth rings, and it has a solid, weighty feel in the hand.
Not only are they beautiful, but they’re also a great choice for anyone looking for something rare and unique.

Mokkoku trees grow straight and spread their branches and leaves in a fan shape.
Along with pine and Podocarpus, they are known as one of the “Edo Goboku” (Five Trees of Edo) and have been prized as the “king of garden trees” in Japan since the Edo period.
The wood is hard with tightly packed growth rings, giving it a solid, weighty feel in the hand.
Mokkoku is also famous for being used as a building material in Shuri Castle in Okinawa.

Because the wood is not commonly available, Go bowls made from Mokkoku are rare and special finds.
