About "Hon-kaya"
"Hon-kaya" wood material is known as the highest grade of Go board.
Its characteristics are as follows
  • Striking sounds
The beautiful and deep “striking sound" when the Go stones are struck on board is one of the reasons why the "Hon-kaya" material has been loved for so long.
The striking sounds and feels are very elegant and makes the experience of playing Go exceptional.
  • The beautiful wood grains
"Hon-kaya"wood is very fine and has a bright yellowish color.
As the color deepens over time, the style and luxury of the product will increase.
  • Durability
The "Hon-kaya"wood is strong and will become more durable over time.
With good maintenance, they can continue to be used for decades.
  • Rarity
Kaya trees grow very slowly and take many years to produce good quality material.
As a result, they are extremely rare and expensive.

  • *This set also includes a “Shin Kaya / screen-printed finish lines" 3*3 miniature Go board so that you can compare the differences in wood color, grain, and quality.

About "Shin-kaya"
"Shin-kaya" is mainly spruce wood from Canada and China, and is called “Shin-kaya” because it is used as a replacement for "Hon-kaya" woods.
  • Striking sounds
The striking sound is lighter and slightly higher pitched than "Hon-kaya".
It has a beautiful resonance, but with a slight difference.
The "Hon-kaya" has a deep and resonant striking sound, whereas the "Shin-kaya" has a lighter striking sound and light strike feel.
  • Wood grains
The "Shin-kaya / Spruce wood" has a relatively light color and beautiful grain, but is not as fine-grained as the "Hon-kaya".
Unlike "Hon-kaya" wood, the wood deteriorates significantly over time, such as color change, and has a short service life.
  • Durability
"Shin-kaya" woods is also durable and easy to handle, but it tends to deteriorate and scratch more easily than "Hon-kaya" woods.
  • Price
Because of its fast growth and large supply, it is very reasonably priced compared to "Hon-kaya" boards.
