These Go bowls are “Keyaki (Japanese Zelkova) Tamamoku Go Bowls”, crafted by wood craftsman Mr. Yukinori Kawashita.
They are designed to hold Go stones up to size 36.

These are crafted from Tamamoku wood, a remarkably rare grain pattern found in Japanese zelkova (Keyaki).
It is said to occur in only one out of every 100,000 trees (0.001%), making it exceptionally rare.
The distinctive circular figuring of Tamamoku imparts a unique beauty and a powerful, organic presence that captures the essence of nature.

As shown in the photos, these Go bowls feature an unusual and distinctive Tamamoku pattern, primarily visible on the lids.

Both the lids and the bowls have been crafted with slightly thicker walls to highlight and preserve the natural beauty of the wood.

What is “Tamamoku”?
 Tamamoku refers to a rare circular grain pattern that sometimes appears near the outer surface of the wood.
These unique patterns are formed when the growth rings of the tree are altered by factors such as injury or weather conditions, creating beautifully rounded, eye-catching figures in the grain.
