Kuro-kaki need to be dried up under open air for many years to be ready used as material for wooden artifacts.
It is extremely difficult to handle this wood since white and black part has different shrinkage factors, that may often result in cracking during the drying process.
Kuro Kaki is a difficult material to handle. It should be thinly shaved first and then dried up. This process should be repeated over and over again before processing into Go bowls.
As it is completely dried up and then processed with utmost care, the Go bowl would not deformed for many years, that enable us to enjoy the beauty for so long.
