Go bowls:Wood craftsman "Kai-shi (懐志)" made Sen-suji technique "Tagayasan / Ironwood" Go bowls
The "Tagayasan" [Ironwood] is a broad-leaved tree of the Fabaceae family and is known as one of the karaki (Chinese trees) and a famous tree.
As the name "iron sword" implies, it is a very hard and heavy wood.
With its calm wood color and beautiful grain, this Go Bowl has a stately appearance.
These Go bowls are made using the hikimono (grinding) technique called "Sen-suji", in which the wood is worked on a potter's wheel to make bowls, trays, and other round vessels.
About "Sen-suji" technique
"Sen-suji" is an ancient Japanese "hiki-mono" technique in which wood is worked on a potter's wheel or lathe to make bowls, trays, and other circular vessels.
In order to hold a wooden bowl firmly, multiple narrow grooves are carved on the side of the bowl where the fingers can rest, and in most cases, this process is applied to the hand-holding part or the side of the bowl.
Since Go bowls are used with Go stones in it, the weight of the Go bowls itself plus the weight of the Go stones adds up to several kilograms, but the "Sen-suji" process makes it easier to hold.
In addition to the practical aspect of making it easier to hold, the beauty of the finish is also a major attraction of "Sen-suji".

Go board:Go board craftsman Mr. Keiji MIWA made Japan grown Hon-kaya Go Board with Legs Kiura 4.5-Sun (about 137 mm thick)
The lines of a board are marked using "Tachi-mori", the skill of drawing lines using a Japanese sword. This traditional technique highlights the beauty of natural grain patterns and the texture of lacquered line is smooth and has also a nice feeling.
The place where the legs of the board are inserted is engraved with "Kei-ho", a proof of the production of Keiji Miwa.
Color stain can be seen from one side to the bottom.
There are small flaws or scratches at one side and the legs.
The top, the cutting side and the bottom have a few intergrown knots.
