Traditional technique "亀甲貫入釉 / Kikko-kannyu-yu"
The multi-layered natural pattern created by the difference in shrinkage rates between clay and glaze during firing of ceramics is called "貫入 / Kannyu".
Among them, the penetration that looks like cracked ice, similar to that of a turtle's shell, is called “亀甲貫入/Kikko-kannyu".
Other patterns, such as a pattern that looks like a beautiful rose blossoms, are sometimes called “tortoise shell”, “rose”, “ice crack”, etc., depending on the pattern that appears.

"貫入 / Kan-nyu (Penetration)" is caused by the difference in expansion rate between the base and glaze during the firing process.
Since the appearance of "貫入 / Kan-nyu (Penetration)" varies depending on the composition of the glaze and the thickness of the glaze, experience and knowledge are essential to produce beautiful "亀甲貫入釉 / Kikko-kannyu-yu", which is a testament to the skill of the craftsman.

It is a typical glaze that "陶仙窯 / To-sen-gama (Tosen pottery)" has used for many years, and the gorgeous colors produced by the combination of clay and pigments are a characteristic of "陶仙窯 / To-sen-gama (Tosen pottery)".
Turquoise blue (celadon blue) is a blue color produced by "陶仙窯 / To-sen-gama (Tosen pottery)" unique pigment formulation. The pink color reflects the color of iron-red soil, while the gray color reflects the color of blue pigmented soil.
Then, it is combined with gold and platinum glazing to create a modern atmosphere.

After firing, gold and platinum painting are applied, and the "三島手 / Mishima-te" technique is further accentuated by baking at approximately 730°C.
Although it takes experience to apply the glaze at the proper concentration, when combined with the Traditional technique "亀甲貫入釉 / Kikko-kannyu-yu", it creates an atmosphere that can be easily adapted to contemporary lifestyles.

"清水焼 / Kiyomizu-yaki", Kyoto's representative pottery During the Edo period, pottery was made in various parts of Kyoto, and the pottery produced in the Kiyomizu-dera Temple area was especially called “Kiyomizu-yaki” (Kiyomizu ware).
On the other hand, the general term for ceramics made in Kyoto from the Momoyama Period to the early Edo Period is “Kyo-yaki,” and thus “Kyo-yaki Kiyomizu-yaki” are the official names for the ceramics.
In addition, since the pottery was often used for tea ceremonies by feudal lords and court nobles, they competed with each other to produce pottery favored by samurai and court nobles, which greatly enhanced the decorative and artistic qualities as well as the technical aspects, such as ease of use.
Therefore, the gorgeous and delicate paintings are characteristic of Kyoto, which has nurtured its own unique art culture such as “Cha-no-yu” (tea ceremony), “Ka-do” (the art of flower arrangement), and “Ko-do” (the art of incense).
