This is a table Go board made of Shinkaya (Spruce), approximately 2.9 cm thick, Size 10 Tenchi-masa, 6-piece *Off-spec.

Shinkaya (spruce) is undeniably inferior in quality compared to genuine Kaya wood, which is regarded as the highest grade for Go boards.
However, it is widely used due to its more affordable price and its grain and color, which closely resemble genuine Kaya.
Its playing feel is comparable to that of Honkaya or Hyuga Kaya boards, and it is less prone to warping or cracking.

We do not sell any product with significant defects. We may sell some products with minor defects as "off-spec products" at a discounted price upon confirmation that customers are duly aware of any defects in advance.
We try our best to describe the condition of any defect as precisely as possible using pictures and text.

*'Defects' refer to any scratch and flaw.

Shin-kaya wood, also known as "new kaya", is a spruce wood grown mainly in North America, which is different from Japanese kaya.
Spruce wood is widely used because it grows straight, is odorless, has low oil content, is easy to process, and is in good supply, making it relatively inexpensive to produce Go/shogi boards.
Spruce board is sold at an affordable price but it has a similar grain and color to honkaya but is not as high quality as honkaya wood.
The quality of the spruce is comparable to that of honkaya or Hyuga kaya, but it is less prone to deformation and cracking.
Spruce wood is also used as SPF (spruce, pine, fir) material for furniture and building materials, but unlike kaya wood, it shows significant deterioration over time, such as changes in wood color, and has a shorter life span.
