Calligrapher Mr.Satoshi Iwao work Wooden panel "Winter" JAC-IWO-412-01

This is a work by Satoshi Iwao, a calligrapher who lives in Miyazaki City and continues to expand and pursue the possibilities of "calligraphy" without being confined to "writing on Japanese paper with ink and brush".
This piece features red plum blossoms blooming resolutely amidst falling snow and a hototogisu (lesser cuckoo) enduring the cold while awaiting spring.
It is adorned with a poem by Zen Master Dogen, written in white characters: "Spring is flowers, summer is the cuckoo, autumn is the moon, winter is snow, and all are serene."

Calligrapher Mr. Iwao said about the creation of this work, "The poem by Zen Master Dogen, 'Spring is flowers, summer is the cuckoo, autumn is the moon, winter is snow, and all are serene,' can be interpreted as referring to plum blossoms in spring that have endured the winter.
Perched on a winter plum tree, the cuckoo withstands the cold while patiently awaiting the warmth of spring. This piece vividly captures the beauty of nature just as it is."
