This Go bowl is Wood craftsman Mr.Kawashita made Yakusugi Go Bowls Premium Burl Grain *Off-spec.

This Go bowl is an exceptionally rare and beautiful piece, featuring “moku” — a distinctive figured grain that shimmers elegantly when viewed from different angles.
The shape of this Go bowl preserves the natural form and texture of the original material, embodying what can be called a “design of nature.”
Elements that would normally be considered imperfections—such as gouges, dents, holes, or dark streaks in the wood—combine to create an overwhelming sculptural beauty, making this a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
Majestic, awe-inspiring, and imbued with both divine grace and mysterious intensity, this Go bowl truly deserves to be called “a masterpiece of beauty.”

Since Yakusugi trees are now protected as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage, logging has been prohibited, and acquiring new Yakusugi timber is extremely difficult.
As a result, Yakusugi is considered one of the most valuable and rare woods in Japan. Its rich, complex grain and dignified appearance have captivated collectors around the world.
While Yakusugi is widely used for fine furniture and décor, its unique beauty and rarity also make it highly sought-after for Go bowls.

This is a one-of-a-kind item.
Please refer to the photos for details.

This Go bowl set is crafted from Yakusugi cedar wood estimated to be around 3,000 years old, featuring beautifully figured grain (moku).
What would normally be considered imperfections—such as gouges, dents, holes, or dark streaks in the wood—together create an overwhelming sculptural beauty, making this a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
Both the lids and the bowls themselves are made slightly thicker to fully showcase the natural character of the Yakusugi material.

There are several filled spots on the back side of one of the lids.
There are several closed cracks and natural stains on the side of one of the bowls.
*The bottom of each bowl is branded with the mark of the craftsman: “川下幸徳 (Yukinori Kawashita).”
Please refer to the photos for more details.
*These bowls can accommodate Go stones up to size 42.
As Yakusugi contains a high amount of natural oil and resin, please avoid storing Go stones inside the bowls for extended periods, as the resin may seep out over time.
