This is a 'Hira-goke' (flat Go bowl) made from "Honkuwa [Mountain mulberry]" wood, known as one of the finest and most luxurious Go bowls.
Its beautiful golden color and the luster that deepens with use give it a unique presence and a sense of elegance.

The mulberry wood (Hon-kuwa) has a yellowish, beautiful wood tone, and when polished, it develops a unique texture, shining with a golden hue.
The wood itself is extremely hard and is even used in materials requiring high strength, such as canes.

Compared to regular Go bowls, this 'Hira-goke' has a lower height and a wider opening, making it easier to take out the Go stones.
It is designed for use with table Go boards.
While the height is lower, the diameter is slightly larger, making it easier to handle the Go stones.
It can hold up to size 35 Go stones.

It is an exceptional piece with hardly any noticeable flaws.

Mulberry (Kuwa) wood has long been cherished as a valuable material in Japan and other Asian countries.
In addition to providing mulberry leaves, which are used as feed for silkworms, the wood itself is known for its beautiful luster and excellent durability, making it widely used for furniture and handicrafts.
In Japan, in particular, mulberry wood is often used for luxury items and is highly regarded for its rarity and beauty.

Beautiful golden wood surface
The greatest appeal of mulberry wood lies in its unique golden hue.
Its softly glowing color deepens over time, gradually transforming into a rich amber.
This aging process gives the wood a distinctive character as it is used, which is one of the reasons why it is cherished by its owners for many years.

Excellent durability and firmness
Mulberry wood is extremely hard and highly durable, making it suitable for furniture and crafts that require strength and long-term use.
It is also resistant to scratches and deformation, which makes it ideal for delicate carvings and intricate workmanship.
For these reasons, it is often used in the production of items that are expected to be used over many years, such as Go bowls, tea utensils, and musical instruments.

Rarity and luxury
Mulberry trees grow slowly and take many years to become large, making it very difficult to obtain high-quality mulberry wood.
Due to its rarity, mulberry wood holds special value as a luxury timber and is primarily used for high-end furniture and traditional crafts.

Beautiful luster and smooth touch
Mulberry wood reveals a smooth surface with a beautiful luster when polished.
This luster increases over time, which deepens the sense of luxury the more it is used, making it one of the key attractions of mulberry wood.
Products made from mulberry wood, carefully crafted by artisans, captivate people with their beauty and tactile quality.
