This ink is a pinewood ink produced from pine trees, a type of ink called “shoenkei" (pine smoke type).
It is called “Garyu-tensei” (画龍點睛).

Garyu-Tensei is a type of pine smoke type ink produced by Suzuka Sumi, based on the traditional Japanese ink manufacturing method, and has a very deep black color and unique luster.

It has a very rich, deep black color, giving a sense of gravity to the work. It also works well with a brush, allowing for smooth writing and detailed expression. Suzuka Sumi ink does not fade easily over time, and is noted for its high preservation property of works.

The name “Garyu-tensei” (画龍點睛) comes from a Chinese legend, meaning that painting eyes on a picture of a dragon brings that picture to life. Because of this, it is considered an important tool for painters and calligraphers to bring their work to life.

As it is a luxury item, it is ideal as a gift for those who are looking for good ink, those who want to start calligraphy in earnest, and those who have a liking for calligraphy.
