This is a set of Shogi pieces craftsman "Fu-getsu 富月" made Shogi pieces , made from Satsuma-hon-tsuge (Satsuma boxwood) with a beautiful Inazuma-moku (lightning pattern wood grain).
The characters are written in the Ryoko-syo (Ryoko-syo script) style and finished in the raised lacquer (Moriage) technique.

This set is made from a rare and exceptionally beautiful wood known as “Inazuma-moku”, or lightning grain.
The striking pattern appears to radiate downward from the top of each piece, reminiscent of a bolt of lightning illuminating the sky — a truly captivating natural design.
The Shogi pieces craftsman Fugetsu, a highly respected Shogi pieces maker, studied under Hisayoshi Itō, a Living National Treasure–level artisan and one of Japan’s “Contemporary Master Craftsmen” from Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture.
Each piece bears the graceful inscription “Fugetsu-saku Ryoko-syo”, delicately engraved on the back of the Gyokushō and Ōshō pieces, with flowing lines that reveal the artisan’s sensitivity and skill.
The elegantly rounded raised lacquer characters further highlight the craftsmanship and refined beauty of this remarkable work.
Fugetsu’s Shogi pieces are also used in major title matches, including the Meijin and other professional tournaments

Calligraphy : Ryoko-syo (Ryoko-syo script) 菱湖書 'Ryoko-sho' is a script based on the calligraphy of Maki Ryoko, a calligrapher of the latter Edo Period, and with its clear, slender characters is a highly popular script, regardless of professional or amateur status.

Shogi pieces types : Mori-age(Embossed) 盛上げ駒 'Mori-age-koma' is a piece made by filling the engraved characters with lacquer, and after drying and polishing the surface flat, finishing by using a brush to add more lacquer on top of the engraved lacquer parts to give slightly raised characters.

Materials : Satsuma-hon-tsuge
Ranked equally with the finest quality wood grain of 'Mikurajima-hon-tsuge', 'Satsuma-hon-tsuge', with its hard and tenacious wood, is also referred to as 'Practicality is Satsuma-hon-tsuge'.

Wood grain : Inazuma-moku (lightning pattern wood grain) / 稲妻杢 Inazuma-moku (lightning grain) is a type of wood pattern created by reversing the grain orientation of Kujaku-moku (peacock grain), which usually spreads upward from the base to the top of the piece.
In Inazuma-moku, the pattern instead expands downward from the top toward the base (koma-jiri), resembling a bolt of lightning — hence its name.
Wood featuring moku (figured grain) is extremely rare and each piece has its own unique character.
Among these, Kujaku-moku and Inazuma-moku are considered exceptionally beautiful and of the highest quality.

Only a few Shogi pieces can be crafted from a single block of wood with such patterns, which means that creating a full matching set of Kujaku-moku or Inazuma-moku pieces requires multiple boxwood logs of similar tone and texture.
This makes these pieces exceptionally rare and highly prized.
