Shogi pieces craftsman "Kou-getsu 幸月" made Mikurajima-hon-tsuge (Mikura Island grown boxwood) Masame, Okuno-Kinki-syo (Okuno-Kinki script) Engraved Shogi pieces.

"Kou-getsu 幸月" is a Shogi pieces maker who learned pieces making under "Fugetsu 富月", a piece maker who is regarded as one of the top five masters of the modern age.
"Kou-getsu 幸月" is especially good at "Engraving".

These Shogi pieces are "hand carved piece" with the characters of the Okuno-Kinki calligraphy carefully carved into the vertical grain wood of the island yellow willow.

  • Materials : Mikurajima-hon-tsuge (Mikura Island grown boxwood) / Mikurajima is an island located in the central part of the Izu Islands (an area with many islands of various sizes) in Tokyo, Japan.
    The quality of tsuge grown in the unique soil and climate is perfect for making shogi pieces.
    Mikurajima Island is the most highly regarded tsuge producing area along with the Satsuma region of Kagoshima Prefecture, that produces Satsuma tsuge.

  • Calligraphy : Okuno-Kinki-syo (Okuno-Kinki script) / This is the typeface used for Shogi pieces produced and sold by "奥野 一香 (Okuno Ikkyo) ", a Shogi pieces maker active in the Edo period.
    The current "Kinki" script is said to have originated in the Edo period when "TOYOSHIMA Ryuzan" copied an inscription of Emperor "Go-mizu-no-O-tenno", which was passed down in the Ohashi main family, one of the three families of shogi (Ohashi main family, Ohashi branch family and Ito family) known for playing castle shogi, etc.
    "Okuno Ikkyo" produced a completely different typeface called "Shoryu" as "Kinki" script and sold it.
    However, "Okuno Ikkyo" produced and marketed a completely different typeface called "Shoryu" as "Kinki".
    This typeface is commonly known as "Okuno-Kinki-syo(Okuno-Kinki script).
