This is a Bamboo motif Incense Burner made from Yakusugi Oily Burl, crafted by wood craftsman Mr.Yukinori Kawashita.

This incense burner, inspired by the motif of bamboo, is crafted from Yakusugi wood.
It is made from "aburakobu" (oily burl) of Yakusugi, a rare material sourced from trees estimated to be around 2,000 years old.
A burl is a protruding formation that appears when a tree is injured or grows abnormally, causing resin to accumulate in one area.
Among these, aburakobu refers to burl wood that contains a high concentration of natural resin and oils.
Yakusugi oily burl, in particular, is highly prized for its remarkable beauty and is often used in fine, high-end woodworking.

This exquisite piece, crafted by wood craftsman Mr. Yukinori Kawashita, is carved from a single block of Yakusugi oily burl and features intricately sculpted bamboo branches and leaves in stunning relief.
A deep, dark indentation on the side—formed naturally in the wood—adds a striking accent to the piece.
The top section, designed to resemble a bamboo node, is removable, revealing a built-in metal incense container inside.
Additionally, the lid is pierced with bamboo leaf-shaped openings, allowing incense to be burned while the lid remains in place.

With a height of about 35 cm and a weight of approximately 4.6 kg, this incense burner has a dignified, weighty presence.

Yakusugi (cedar wood) made Shogi pieces stand is beautiful and graceful with their intricate and elaborate grain patterns that there are serious "Yakusugi collectors" all over the world.
Since Yakushima Island has been registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, logging has been prohibited and the quantity of Yakusugi trees on the market is quite limited, making them extremely difficult to obtain.
The color of Yakusugi (cedar) wood is reddish-brown. It is a very beautiful wood with its unique aroma and intricate grain patterns.
Please note that the tree oil or fat may start to seep as time goes by as the wood contains a lot of oil and fat.
