The color of Yakusugi (cedar) wood is reddish-brown. It is a very beautiful wood with its unique aroma and intricate grain patterns.

What is Yakusugi Essential Oil?
"Yakusugi" is a general term for the cedar trees that grow naturally on Yakushima, Japan’s first UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.
However, only those trees that grow at an elevation of 500 meters or more and are over 1,000 years old are officially recognized as Yakusugi.

Yakusugi essential oil is made by extracting 100% natural resin components through steam distillation.
From approximately 5 kg of raw material, only about 20 ml of essential oil can be obtained, making it an exceptionally rare and precious oil.

Benefits and Effects of Yakusugi Essential Oil
Yakusugi essential oil is rich in naturally occurring compounds called "sesquiterpenes", which are plant-derived bioactive substances.
Its composition is primarily based on terpenes, and it has been shown to have notable effects such as promoting deep relaxation.

promotes deep relaxation
The refreshing feeling you get when inhaling the scent of Yakusugi essential oil is said to occur because its aromatic compounds travel from the nose to the brain, stimulating the production of alpha waves, which are associated with a relaxed state of mind.

Helps relieve tension and calm the mind
Yakusugi essential oil is particularly rich in a sesquiterpene compound called "β-eudesmol", which has been reported to act on the sympathetic nervous system and help suppress overstimulation.
It also contains a compound known as "elemol", which is recognized for its strong healing properties and is known to calm excitability in the nervous system.

Improved sleep quality
The "sesquiterpenes" contained in the essential oil are also known to enhance the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting greater balance in the autonomic nervous system.
As parasympathetic activity increases, the nervous system calms down, which may lead to improved sleep quality.

Enhanced immunity and antibacterial properties
Sesquiterpenes have also been reported to help regulate the autonomic nervous system and enhance immune function.
A stable autonomic nervous system contributes to stronger immunity, supporting the body's natural defense mechanisms.

Yakusugi essential oil also exhibits antibacterial effects.
It is said that the secret to the exceptional longevity of Yakusugi trees—some of the oldest living trees in Japan—lies in their abundant resin content.
This resin has antibacterial and insect-repelling properties, protecting the trees from external threats for thousands of years.
Since resin is directly linked to the essential oil, it also demonstrates powerful antibacterial, disinfectant, preservative, and insect-repellent effects.

How to Use with an Aroma Diffuser
For ultrasonic diffusers that use water, the standard guideline is 3 to 4 drops of essential oil per 100 ml of water.
However, you may adjust the amount of oil to your preference if you wish to enjoy a stronger aroma.
