The beautifully flowing black patterns unique to Kurogaki make this a truly one-of-a-kind yunomi.
The natural contrast of white and black created by nature gives the piece a deep and captivating character.

ろくろ木工工芸師西川嵩
kurokaki-mokuzai Wood with the distinctive black lines and patterns characteristic of Kurogaki (Persimmon wood) is extremely rare, said to appear in only one out of tens of thousands of trees.
These black lines and patterns vary depending on the individual piece of wood and the part used—sometimes thin, sometimes bold, sometimes faint, and sometimes deep and dramatic.
Some resemble strokes painted with a brush, while others look as if ink has been poured and allowed to flow naturally across the grain.

The unique beauty of these one-of-a-kind black patterns is the greatest charm and defining characteristic of Kurogaki wood.

Kurogaki timber must be naturally dried for many years before it can be used.
Only after a long and careful drying process does it become suitable as a material. However, because the white portions and black portions of the wood shrink at different rates, the wood is prone to cracking during drying, making it an extremely difficult material to handle.

Craftsmen repeatedly shave the wood little by little and allow it to rest and dry in the air, carefully controlling the process. Only after this meticulous and time-consuming work can it finally be shaped into a wine glass.

Because the wood is patiently dried and carefully crafted, the finished piece is resistant to deformation and will maintain its beauty for many years of use.

kurokaki-yunomi This yunomi features bold black patterns that look as if they were painted with a thick brush.
It comes with a lid whose pattern continues seamlessly from the cup.
The yunomi crafted by Traditional Craftsman Takashi Nishikawa is carefully turned with meticulous attention paid even to the rim where the lips touch.
It is truly a masterpiece, created through the fusion of the craftsman’s long experience and exceptional skill.
In particular, the side of the cup is beautifully finished, shaved as thin as possible while maintaining strength, with the thickness checked by fingertip during the process.
This detail reflects the dedication and precision of a traditional craftsman.
There is no problem using it as a drinking vessel, and it can be used with confidence.
Of course, it can be enjoyed not only with tea, but also with juice, shochu, sake, and other beverages.
It can also be used not only for cold drinks, but for warm coffee or tea as well.

Wooden yunomi cups offer excellent insulation, heat resistance, and heat retention. Even with cold drinks, condensation is less likely to form, and when used with warm drinks, the cup remains comfortable to hold and the beverage stays warm longer.
Unlike ceramic yunomi cups, this wooden yunomi allows you to enjoy the warmth of natural wood and a soft, smooth mouthfeel with all your senses.
As this is a one-of-a-kind item, it is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please order early!!!
