This is a Kurogaki (black persimmon wood) pair guinomi set crafted by traditional craftsman Takashi Nishikawa.
The set includes two guinomi cups in different sizes.
Each piece bears the branded mark “Nishikawa Saku,” certifying it as the work of Takashi Nishikawa.

Featuring a beautiful contrast of black and white, this is a truly one-of-a-kind pair guinomi set made from extremely rare Kurogaki wood, said to appear in only one out of tens of thousands of trees.
The natural contrast of white and black created by nature gives the piece a deep and captivating character.

kurokaki-meotoguinomiset-moyou-02 This guinomi set features beautiful striped grain patterns known as "Toramoku" (Tiger-striped wood grain) on the sides of each cup, resembling the pattern of a tiger’s fur.

Because each piece is handcrafted and cannot be mass-produced, these works are difficult to obtain. However, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Nishikawa, we are pleased to offer a limited release of only three sets.
*Only a few sets available.
Perfect for personal enjoyment, and also highly recommended as a special gift for someone important.

ろくろ木工工芸師西川嵩
kurokaki-mokuzai Wood with the distinctive black lines and patterns characteristic of Kurogaki (Persimmon wood) is extremely rare, said to appear in only one out of tens of thousands of trees.
These black lines and patterns vary depending on the individual piece of wood and the part used—sometimes thin, sometimes bold, sometimes faint, and sometimes deep and dramatic.
Some resemble strokes painted with a brush, while others look as if ink has been poured and allowed to flow naturally across the grain.

The unique beauty of these one-of-a-kind black patterns is the greatest charm and defining characteristic of Kurogaki wood.

Kurogaki timber must be naturally dried for many years before it can be used.
Only after a long and careful drying process does it become suitable as a material. However, because the white portions and black portions of the wood shrink at different rates, the wood is prone to cracking during drying, making it an extremely difficult material to handle.

Craftsmen repeatedly shave the wood little by little and allow it to rest and dry in the air, carefully controlling the process. Only after this meticulous and time-consuming work can it finally be shaped into a wine glass.

Because the wood is patiently dried and carefully crafted, the finished piece is resistant to deformation and will maintain its beauty for many years of use.

kurokaki-meotoguinomiset-moyou-02 This pair of guinomi cups is crafted from the same piece of Kurogaki wood, making it a matching “couple’s” guinomi set with beautifully coordinated black patterns.
The cups feature areas with bold black patterns that resemble deep black lacquer flowing across the surface, as well as areas with almost no pattern, creating different expressions depending on the viewing angle.
The yunomi crafted by Traditional Craftsman Takashi Nishikawa is carefully turned with meticulous attention paid even to the rim where the lips touch. It is truly a masterpiece, created through the fusion of the craftsman’s long experience and exceptional skill.

Highly recommended as a wedding gift, or as a commemorative gift for silver or golden wedding anniversaries.
As this is a one-of-a-kind item, it is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please order early!!!
