“Nikkei” (also known as Nikkei or Nikki) is another name for Cinnamomum japonicum, an evergreen tree in the laurel family.
Its bark and root have a distinctive sweet, spicy aroma and are used as a spice.
Although its scent is similar to cinnamon and sometimes confused with it, it is actually a different material.
The wood is used for items such as utensils, furniture, interior fittings, carvings, and even firewood and charcoal.
It has a solid, weighty feel and a smooth texture.

Today's round-shaped Go bowl is called 'Yasui type'.
But until Yasui type emerged, this "Hon-in-bo" shape was more popular and mainstream for a long time of Japanese history.
The "Hon-in-bo gata" shape Go bowl looks like bamboo as you see from the photo image.
Yasui-shaped Go bowls are popular in general, but "Hon-in-bo gata" shape is loved by serious players and collectors who are fascinated by its traditional technique and its unique character.
