This is a Go three-piece set consisting of a 5.6-Sun Shin-Kaya (Spruce) Go board with legs featuring Tenchi-masa grain *Repaired Item, slightly smaller 21 mm diameter Go stones, and Chestnut Go bowls.

The Go board is a repaired item that has been restored from a pre-owned Shin-Kaya Go board with legs.
The surface has been planed down, the grid lines have been redrawn using the traditional Tachi-mori technique, and the legs have been replaced.
As the board was planed during the restoration process, its length and width are slightly smaller than standard dimensions.
Therefore, standard-size Go stones cannot be neatly arranged on the board.
For this reason, this set includes slightly smaller Go stones measuring 21 mm in diameter.
The Go bowls are made of Chestnut wood, a durable and relatively affordable material.

This set is recommended for those who understand that the Go board is a repaired item and would like to own a Go board with legs at an affordable price.
*As this is a repaired item, the board shows signs of use, age-related changes, and some flaws. Therefore, we do not recommend this set as a gift.

Clamshell Go stones are manufactured by Go stones craftsmen one by one through more than 20 manufacturing processes.
It takes about 2 to 6 months from the Clamshell to the product.

*The black Go stones included in this set are Nachiguro Go stones.

Go Bowls / Kuri [chestnut]
Although Chestnut wood has a somewhat coarse texture, these Go bowls feature a calm, deep brown color and are both lightweight and durable.
Chestnut Go bowls are widely used because they are relatively affordable, durable, and practical for everyday use.

Shin-kaya wood, also known as "new kaya", is a spruce wood grown mainly in North America, which is different from Japanese kaya.
Spruce wood is widely used because it grows straight, is odorless, has low oil content, is easy to process, and is in good supply, making it relatively inexpensive to produce Go/shogi boards.
Spruce board is sold at an affordable price but it has a similar grain and color to honkaya but is not as high quality as honkaya wood.
The quality of the spruce is comparable to that of honkaya or Hyuga kaya, but it is less prone to deformation and cracking.
Spruce wood is also used as SPF (spruce, pine, fir) material for furniture and building materials, but unlike kaya wood, it shows significant deterioration over time, such as changes in wood color, and has a shorter life span.

"Tenchi-masa" literally means the grain runs from the top to the bottom or from the sky (ten) to the earth (chi).
As there is no visible itame (flat grain), you can see the beautiful masame (straight grain) from the top to the bottom of the board.
When the top and bottom surfaces have masame (straight grain) but the side has itame (flat grain), the board is classified as tenchi-masa.
Just like the shihou-masa board, the tenchi-masa board is made from a large-diameter, well-aged tree.
The kaya (Japanese Torreya) tenchi-masa board is synonymous with the finest Go boards made of valuable wood.
Also, most of the boards called tsugi-ban or hagi-ban (composition boards made from several pieces of wood joined together) have tenchi-masa or masame (straight grain).
