These beautiful bowls are created using lathe woodcraft techniques refined through over 50 years of experience.
These Go bowls are crafted from Harienju (Black Locust) wood, characterized by its yellowish-brown to brown color and distinctive, well-defined grain.
The wood has a substantial weight and is known for its toughness, water resistance, and excellent durability against decay.

These Go bowls feature a warm yellowish-brown to brown tone, giving them a calm and refined appearance.

Overall, there are numerous intergrown knots and colored stains inherent to the wood.

The Japanese name “Harienju” comes from its sharp thorns and its resemblance to the Enju tree.

biei Traditional Craftsman Biei was born in Gunma Prefecture into a family engaged in lathe-turned woodworking and has spent over 50 years studying and refining the techniques of lathe woodcraft.
Working daily with a wide variety of woods, he continues to produce high-quality Go bowls through skilled craftsmanship and careful attention to detail.

In recognition of his expertise in lathe woodcraft, he was certified as a “Traditional Craftsman” in 2000.
