This is a pair of extra large Kaya Low and Wide shape Go Bowls, crafted by Traditional Craftsman Biei, designed for Go stones up to size 35.

These beautiful bowls are created using lathe woodcraft techniques refined through over 50 years of experience.
Kaya is regarded as the finest material for Go boards, and these bowls highlight kaya’s characteristic soft wood tone and fine, delicate grain.
Their wood quality and color closely match those of Hon-Kaya and Hyuga Kaya boards, making them an excellent pairing.

This pair is made in the Low and Wide shape, designed especially for tabletop boards. Compared to standard Go bowls, they are lower in height and offer a stable profile.
To balance the reduced height, the diameter is made slightly larger.
The wide opening makes it easy to take stones in and out.

biei Traditional Craftsman Biei was born in Gunma Prefecture into a family engaged in lathe-turned woodworking and has spent over 50 years studying and refining the techniques of lathe woodcraft.
Working daily with a wide variety of woods, he continues to produce high-quality Go bowls through skilled craftsmanship and careful attention to detail.

In recognition of his expertise in lathe woodcraft, he was certified as a “Traditional Craftsman” in 2000.
