Tanshin Kiln
"Suisho-bori" is a unique technique developed by Tanshin Kiln, in which high-quality white porcelain from Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture is meticulously perforated.
The holes are then carefully filled with a specially blended clay, a secret formula of Tanshin Kiln, and fired to create a shimmering, crystal-like transparency.
Each hole is hand-carved by artisans, and the clay is manually inserted into each one.
The pieces are then fired twice at 1,300°C, a time-intensive process that ensures their exceptional quality and beauty.
*Hotaru-yaki (literally "firefly ware") is a ceramic technique where translucent holes are carved into the pottery and filled with glaze, allowing light to pass through.
