This “Legendary Go Stones Amber Colored” are made from Suwabute clamshells that was collected in the Okuraga-hama beach in Hyuga City, Miyazaki Pref. Japan.
Today, most natural clamshells are depleted and can no longer be found on the beach.

Usually, the pure white color is highly valued for natural clamshell Go stones.
But in very rare occasion, Amber color partly stay in the surface of Go stones.
These stones are accidentally created with 0.001-0.0001% of total number of production.
In that sense, this is truly rare and extremely beautiful natural clamshell Go stone, only one set available out of several thousand or more Go stones.

These Amber Go stones have natural amber shade.
Elegant Amber-colored stripes beautifully cover the Go stones surface.

In case of white Go stones, stripe design is not clearly visible.
On the other hand, these Amber-colored stones clearly outstands its stripes on its surface.
This item is hardly found in the market, that makes it true rare product.
Please kindly understand that the Amber color is a bit varied even though we have carefully selected the stones with similar color tone.
These are truly rare Go stones that can be found only one set out of several thousands to several tens of thousands clamshells.

*These Go stones are "BLUE LABEL" grade. There are small scratches, but all of them are invisible or hard to see.

Now unfortunately, clam shells, the raw material for Go stones, are not available at all at Okuragahama beach in Hyuga City, which used to be the production center of Hyuga-produced clamshell Go stones.
Because of the slow growth of the Hyuga clam shells, large clam shells are not often harvested, and in most cases, only one clam shell is harvested from each clam shell.
  • It is practically impossible to make new products with Hyuga clams because they are almost depleted these days.
  • The shell is more dense and smooth, and harder than Mexican ones.
  • Hyuga clam boasts dense and beautiful strips, that shows growth line of the shell.
  • Only one piece of Go stone can be cut out from one clamshell.
